An occupational fatality is a death that occurs while a person is at work or performing work related tasks. Occupational fatalities are also commonly called “occupational deaths” or “work-related deaths/fatalities” and can occur in any industry or occupation.
In general, occupational fatalities have steadily decreased in number since 1994. Still, in 2007, 5,488 people died in work-related incidents in the United States[1]. That amounts to an average of 15 deaths every day.
